TREASURER'S REPORT; Lilly Ann Seipel reported a balance of $2,555.64;. John Thiermann moved the treasurer's report be filed for audit, seconded by Ralph Suttell.

SECRETARY'S REPORT; Lilly Ann reported that the minutes of the fall meeting had been mailed to the president and treasurer of all the Conference Societies. Louis LaPlante moved the minutes be accepted as mailed, seconded by Rick Peters, motion carried.

Dick reminded everyone that starting in the year 2004, $20.00 from each society's dues would no longer be going to the society hosting the annual show and conference. The full $35.00 dues will be retained in the Midwest Treasury. The Midwest Conference held raffles the past 2 years in an effort to build its weakened treasury. Allowing the full dues from each society to flow into the treasury will be very helpful..

Rick Peters reported on the Midwest Web Site. The site is active and h e hopes to have a link directed to the Midwest and National Show Site, which should make it easier to make reservations.

Mac Boyer suggested we have a committee to review the By-Laws. Dick appointed Mac as chairman and he is to select 2 others to assist in this effort.

Dick asked the membership for suggestions on future programs for the Midwest Spring Meeting.

Ron Miner suggested creating a Midwest Classification System. Mac Boyer suggested Ron Miner look into this matter. Wayne and Eleanor Shantz should be contacted if anyone has classification questions. Mac suggested a committee. John Ruoff looked into this 4 or 5 years ago. Lilly Ann Seipel quoted from the June 6, 1998 Spring Meeting -- "There was a discussion of an alternative classification listing in the ADS Handbook for dahlias grown in the Midwest. John Ruoff advised that approximately 3 years ago he had sent forms and letters to various societies regarding this issue. Most people were not in favor of a separate list. The general opinion of those present at this meeting was that we would not make any changes at this time. If anyone feels there should be specific changes they can submit suggested changes to Norma Boyer of the Classification Committee for consideration." Mac moved that a committee of 3 be appointed, with Ron Miner as chairman and John Ruoff and Rick Peters on the Committee, to re-evaluate the classification listing for the Midwest. Motion seconded by Bob Moynahan. Motion carried. The committee will report back in September.

2003 MIDWEST/NATIONAL SHOW - Ron Miner reported that the 2003 Midwest/National show, hosted by the Dahlia Society of Ohio, Cleveland, Ohio will be held September 11, 12, 13 and 14 at the Akron-Fairlawn Hilton Hotel. The room cost will be $109, which includes a breakfast buffet. Ron had schedules with him for anyone needing one. Registration forms will be available in the bulletin. Reservations should be made early as the hotel has space for a maximum of 300 people. Barbara Hosta made a beautiful quilt, which Ron showed the members. The quilt will be raffled at the banquet. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Anyone wishing a ticket should contact Ron. Also, D.S.O. will run a boutique in the hotel during the show with various items for sale.

2004 MIDWEST SHOW - Harriett Chandler reported that the 2004 Midwest Show, hosted by East Liverpool Dahlia Society, will be held September 17, 18, and 19, 2004 at the Holiday Inn Metroplex in Liberty (Dirard) Ohio. The room cost will be $9. They will have a quilted Wall Hanging to raffle at the banquet.

2005 MIDWEST SHOW - Mac Boyer reported that the 2005 Midwest Show, hosted by the Elkhart Dahlia Society would be held at the Concord Mall.

2007 MIDWEST/NATIONAL SHOW - Central States is contemplating bidding.

Ron Suttell reported that Toronto is having an International Show in 2005. There will be more information available in Akron. This will be a full ADS Show.

Dick advised that we would need to elect 3 officers this year to replace Dick Westfall, Charles Craig and Steve Tkach. Also, we need to elect a new Secretary/Treasurer, since Lilly Ann is resigning. Corney Morgan has been appointed to act as Chairman of the Nominating Committee.

Ellis Evans announced that he has 26,000 Midwest Show Tags. If any of the societies are in need of the tags, they should contact him.

Mac Boyer has placed an order for the new Hunter Green Show Vases. Any society needing them should contact Mac.

The J.C. Moore bronze medals were given to the Midwest Conference Members who had a representative at the meeting. Lilly Ann will mail the medals to those that were not present. The Midwest Societies should thank Bud Moore for his generous donations of these bronze medals that he has been giving every year.

Dick brought up the location of the spring meeting. It was moved by Ralph Suttell that the meeting and plant sale continue to be held in Goshen, Indiana, second by John Thiermann, motion carried.

It was announced by Dick that any society planning to host a Midwest Show must abide by the Midwest By-laws

Dick thanked Mac and Norma Boyer, Dan and Kathy Franklin and the Elkhart Society for hosting the Spring Meeting.

Rick Peters moved the meeting be adjourned, seconded by John Thiermann

Mac Boyer presented the program "Findings from an Extensive Research Project he as been conducting the past several years on nutrients and their effects on plant growth and root production. Also, we had a short update on Judging according to the new Revised Judges Manual. It was an excellent and very informative presentation.

The plant auction followed. The auction yielded $1771.00 which is a record. It is good to see that so many of our members support this sale that helps defray the costs of the Midwest Show.

The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted
Lilly Ann Seipel, Secretary/Treasurer
