Thanks to the co-sponsors of the 2002 Judging Seminar -- the Grand Valley Dahlia Society and Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. We wish to thank them for all of their efforts on a very successful seminar!

Here are a few pictures to give you an idea of what you missed--or what you enjoyed if you were one of the many participants:

The beauty of the Meijer Gardens is immediately evident to any visitor who walks up to the building. Here are a couple pictures of the front entry to the gardens.

Of course, one of the main things that makes this garden unique is its integration of sculpture throughout the entire park. Here is one of the sculptures at the garden entry:

Ron Miner, Dahlia Society of Ohio, then presented "Overview of Dahlia Forms, Sizes, and Colors," including some of the changes that will be in the newly revised Judges Manual from the ADS.

And, of course, a seminar wouldn't be very successful without participants... The attendance was so good that extra chairs had to be set up to accomodate the overflow.

That very same day, there was another flower show at the Meijer Gardens...a daylily show! It was interesting to look at the contrast of how we display our dahlias, and all that it involves, and how another flower approaches it's show--in long rows of single blooms in little glass tubes.

No, it isn't a dahlia....it's ONLY a daylily (SMILE), but beautiful none-the-less in its delicacy and stunning color combination.

The long day ended with a sometimes lively panel discussion about judging dahlias....
