| 2002 MIDWEST CONFERENCE DAHLIA SHOW
The 2002 Midwest Conference Dahlia Show was held in St. Louis on September 28-29, 2002 at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. OVER 45 DAHLIA LOVERS ATTEND 2002 JUDING SEMINAR
This interesting event was sponsored by the Grand Valley Dahlia Society in Grand Rapids, Michigan at the beautiful Frederik Meijer Gardens on Saturday July 27, 2002. The all-day seminar focused on judging techniques, evaluating various forms of dahlias, and standardizing judging techniques as well as pointed out changes in the new Judges Manual that should be put out by the ADS soon. Well, you really missed a great day if you didn't manage to get to the 2002 Spring Meet and Plant Sale on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Peddlers’ Village Event Center in Goshen, Indiana. More than 60 people were in attendance, and there was at least one member attending from 17 of the 18 member societies! The program by Dan Franklin was a real eye-opener to a lot of those present and generated a lot of thought-provoking discussion and questions. He used slides showing the whole sequence of a dahlia year from storage back to storage--using containers the entire time! The plant auction followed and yielded $1521, with this year's proceeds going to the Midwest Dahlia Conference host for 2002. (Minutes and photos of the spring 2002 MDC meeting.)
