This is the month for our 2009 Dahlia Banquet.
Place to be announced. Cost will be $10 per person. We will meet at 1:30 pm. Awards from the 2009 show will be
distributed. A slideshow of events will be presented. More information to
come.

Open to new members. We will meet at the Fredrick Meijer
Gardens in the Frey room at 7:30 PM. The
program will be New Dahlia Introductions for 2010. This is a high-quality DVD that will
show the new dahlias that are on the market for the coming year. By seeing
the video early in the season, growers will have a chance to pick up a
tuber or two from commercial growers for the 2010 season. Do you want great show flowers, or cut
flowers for bouquets for the garden?
Black-green foliage, or low growing dahlias that don’t need staking?
Would you like a dahlia that stands up well in the rain, or one that blooms
early? Or do you just want to know where to get the dahlias that are your
“favorites”? Come and explore why
we love this flower, and discover what will excite you, too!

General meeting open to new members. We will meet at the Fredrick Meijer
Gardens in the Frey room at 7:30
PM. We will be preparing
our tubers for the annual sale, and enlisting members for various duties at
the sale. One of the benefits of membership is trading tubers at this
meeting! This is our major
fund-raiser, so please donate your extra tubers (named and in good shape
with an eye). Prior to this meeting, if you are planning to donate
tubers, please contact Jo Jepsen with the varieties that you plan to donate
so that she can print off the appropriate labels in preparation for the
sale. The stickers will have a picture of the bloom, size, shape, and
name. The earlier she gets your lists the better! You can e-mail her
at jojrn@aol.com. Remember a chance to win a crystal
goblet award! Carol Sears is in
charge of the tuber sales this year, so if you have other questions, please
contact her.

These are the dates for our annual Tuber Sale. The
sale will be held both days at the Fulton
Street Farmer’s Market in Grand Rapids, near the corner of
Fuller and Fulton. It will start at
8:00 AM and go until noon. We
have fun sharing with others, so help us and sign up to work at our sales!
Tell all your friends the dates so they can get show flower tubers at
bargain prices!

Annual Midwest Dahlia Conference and Show, with 1607 blooms exhibited!

This year is the Society’s Ninth Annual Dahlia Show.
It will be held at the Fredrik Meijer
Gardens. The flower of
the year is Little Willow. Remember a chance to win a crystal goblet award!
There will be something for everyone to enable them to participate in this
event. This is a judged show. Check the newsletter for specifics. We will
be signing up new members and there will be an information desk with
literature and someone there to answer all your questions. Contact Rick
Peters, show chairman if you have questions.
Show hours: August 28th: 9-5.
August 29th: 12-5. (Photographers welcome).
