The Midwest Dahlia Conference, in conjunction with the Elkhart Dahlia Society, is putting on a Dahlia Judging Seminar.

When:  Saturday, 15 August 2009 at 9:00 AM.  Should end about 3 PM.

Where:  Bonneville Mill Park--Bonneville Trial Garden, Bristol, Indiana

Bring:  ADS Guide to Judging Dahlias and a dish to share for the pot luck luncheon.  This is the Elkhart Society's Summer Picnic, and they will furnish the drinks, so please remember to bring your place settings.  Those who are far away are encouraged to bring salads in ice coolers or desserts.  The local folks can bring hot dishes.

The Program:  We will break into small judging teams and be briefed by the Director, Mac Boyer.  Then we will judge the Trial Garden in the morning.  If you would like to come even earlier than 9:00 AM, feel free to do so.  Judging dahlias in the cool of the day is preferable, not only for the dahlias, but for the human body.  After the Trial Garden experience, we will have two presentations.  The first is by Ron Miner who will talk on:  A New Way of Approaching the Dahlia Judging Sheet.  The second presentation is by John Thiermann who will speak on:  How to Evaluate the Large Dahlia Bloom.

How to get there:

The address is:  Bonneville Mill Park, 53373 County Road 131, Bristol, Indiana

From the North  Take 131 south and cross into Indiana.  Go 1.7 miles on Hwy 13 (which was 131 in Michigan).  Turn right onto Hwy 120 (also called Vistula road) and go 4.0 miles and turn left onto County Road 131 to Bonneville Mill Park.  The park is down the road less than a mile.

From the West and East  Take the Indiana Tollway and get off at Exit 107.  Go south on Hwy 13 about a mile and turn right onto Hwy 120.  Go 4.0 miles and turn left onto County Road 131 to Bonneville Mill Park.  The park is down the road less than a mile.

From the South  Proceed north on 31 and turn right onto Hwy 20 heading east to Elkhart.  Keep on Hwy 20 which ceases to be a freeway.  About 2.75 miles out of Elkhart, you will see the right turn onto County Road 131 to Bonneville Mill Park.  The park is about a mile down the road.
